Kara Haakonson, DAcCHM, L.Ac, Dipl. OM
With a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (DAcCHM) and national board certification in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Kara brings a wealth of knowledge and compassionate care to Meridian + Myrrh Acupuncture and Wellness. She treats patients in the western suburbs of Chicago, specializing in stress recovery and nervous system alignment, pain management, pediatric health, and general medicine.
Kara’s academic journey began at the University of Illinois Chicago, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in accountancy and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). After twelve years in accounting and corporate finance, she followed her passion for holistic medicine, completing both her Master of Science in Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (MSAcCHM) and her Doctorate (DAcCHM) at Pacific College of Health and Science, graduating summa cum laude.
With more than 3,500 hours of academic and clinical training, Kara’s expertise spans acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and integrative care that bridges Eastern and Western medical approaches. Her advanced doctoral studies emphasized evidence-informed practice, advanced integrative diagnosis, orthopedics, and preventative medicine.
Kara is deeply committed to supporting individuals on their healing journeys. Her patient-centered approach blends the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern healthcare, helping patients restore balance, achieve wellness goals, and feel their best.
